UPTOWN. This modern high-rise is a popular Uptown spot for both sightseers and residents. Historical portraits of the city dot the corridors of this architecturally stunning site. Take an elevator to the peak of this astonishing, scalloped-topped skyscraper. A true adventure!

FOURTH WARD. On the fringe of Uptown's concrete and asphalt is an intimate, restored neighborhood known as the Fourth Ward. Picturesque streets are populated with quaint gingerbread-trimmed homes and manicured lawns. In the late 1970s, the residences were renovated in a push to restore the area to its 19th-century Victorian grandeur. Today, visitors can get a peek into the lives of residents who appreciate the intimacy of tree-lined streets while craving the action of the city.

CORNELIUS. Lake Norman's 520 miles of shoreline create an oasis for fun in the sun, just north of Charlotte off I-77. The lake is where Charlotte's "beautiful people" ­ and those who imagine themselves to be ­ come to spend summer weekends. Boats are often tied together to create makeshift parties on the lake, and "float up" restaurants like The Rusty Rudder are worth checking out if you're cruising about. CONCORD. The Lowe's Motor Speedway plays host to many major races and is a major stop in the Winston Cup series. The speedway offers tours giving visitors information pertaining to NASCAR and auto racing history. Be sure to browse through the gift shop. A must for racing fans! "Feel The Thrill" tours are available only on non-event days.

UNIVERSITY AREA. Take a stroll or a jog across Char-Meck's largest university campus. Rolling hills and modern academic buildings make it a perfect place to get lost in your own little world for an hour or two. From the athletic fields on West Campus to Van Landingham Glen and Susie Harwood Garden on East Campus, plenty of beautiful spaces let you lose yourself in the scenery and in your own private reverie.
